Thank you for everyone who has shared his/her pictures of French Manicure with us. Your contributions are really, really appreciated. ~Staff

Our Home French Manicure article (courtesy of Toerrific) is popular among the readers. So, we decided to look back at this classy nail design and write a review about it.

We know from history that "French manicures may have its origin in the 18th Century and was popular in the 1920s and 1930s. The re-popularisation of the French manicure since the 1970s is sometimes accredited to Jeff Pink, founder of ORLY International. He got his beginnings working closely with movie producers and one day they asked him to come up with nail look that would coordinate with all of his leading lady’s costumes. Jeff had attended a fashion show there and noticed that all of the models had white pencil under the tip of their nails. He took this idea back to Hollywood with him and coordinated polishes to duplicate the look". (Source: Wikipedia)

French manicure has grown so much ever since. Now we see a lot of bold and beautiful reverse french manicure with lotsa designs. No longer now only the standard pink and white, but any color will look great for the base and tip. Beside the color change, nail art, gem stone, accessories are also added to beautify the manicure. But, that's what I love about nail art design. Sky is the limit. Hey, how about summer French manicure? Hmm...that's kinda new.

A really new trend now for French manicure is a reverse kind of FM with light color on the half moon part instead of the free edge. Sounds interesting? Read more about it here.

Oh, did somebody mention american manicure? If you don't know what it is, some people say american manicure is a softer "french manicure". It is done with a softer white rather than the whitest white (the one that look like white out). It also can be done with the pale pink or the beige pulled over the white instead of a definite color difference (Source: BeautyTech).

Ok, finally we've gathered some pictures of french manicure and its new twists. Hopefully, you'll get some inspiration after seeing these designs created by manicurists or DIYists. Do you have a photo of your own or any tips on French Manicure? Send it to us and we'll publish it here.
